WiFi World
K’s car broke down yesterday. Again. It’s a piece of crap, so perhaps this shouldn’t be surprising to her, but she’s potentially stuck for a ride to class tonight, where she has a test.
Although it’s miles and miles out of my way, I did volunteer to help, as…
a)I’m a nice guy and I dig her
b)I know car problems suck
c)I can take my online poker game on the road for an evening
There’s no fewer than five places that I’ve confirmed have free WiFi access that are in the neighborhood of where her classes are tonight. She could drop me off, let me chill out and play on the Net, and pick me up when she’s done.
Actually, I’m excited too because one of the WiFi hotspots (see, I’ve got the lingo down) is a place called “Bar Divani,” which is (heh heh heh…) a
wine bar downtown.
Excuse me? I come in, have a piece of cheesecake and a couple glasses of good Italian red and I can use your Internet? Uh, ok!
Chances are she’ll make someone else drive her out there, but if I have to go, at least I’ve got something to keep me amused.
On another note on topic, I haven’t read the article (as I’m at work), but apparently my hometown is looking to offer 256kbps WiFi access to residents for $20/month. That might not be a bad idea.
